Description
This introduction to mental health nursing focuses on caring for clients experiencing acute and chronicpsychiatric illnesses across the lifespan in a variety of clinical settings. The course emphasizesdevelopment of students’ self-awareness,therapeutic communication, professional behaviors, andunderstanding of ethical/legal issues in the provision of competent nursing care to mental healthclients. Emphasis is placed on utilizing strategies that promote optimal psychological and emotionalwell-being. Health promotion, principles of evidence-based practice, pharmacology, and nutrition areintegrated throughout the course. Prerequisite(s): NURS 1108 and NURS 1109 with a minimum grade of C.
